Dinehome experience of Martyna

January 2, 2019

- Why Italy and why Bologna for your international studies?

Italy is a beautiful destination and perhaps a dream country for many. I really wanted experience different culture, try local cuisine, adapt to new lifestyle, learn Italian, and of course study at Bologna Uni - oldest university in the world. Such a pleasure!

- Why you decided to do the Dinehome project while here?

I thought it was a great opportunity to find out locals’ lifestyle, their habits and traditions, taste traditional food (oh those delicious tortellini, ravioli, pasta, tiramisu and etc.) and improve Italian language. At the beginning of my stay in Italy I was so surprised how late Italians have dinner but it didn't take a lot of time for me to adapt that! :D

- Would you like to share with us the most embarrassing moment?

I cannot really remember an embarrassing moment; everything was really great from the very beginning!  They were kind, friendly and made me feel like home. However, I remember I was too scared to go for a dinner for a first time. It was late and already dark outside; my family lived around a half away by bus from the centre of Bologna (where I lived). So I was quite stressed, I repeated to myself "what the hell are you doing, Marty" and kept sending my location to friends.
But when I met them all my fears just gone.

- The best dinner and night with your host family?

All dinners I had with them (there were a lot) were simply amazing and of course, so so buonissimo! Thanks to Cristina (my mom) who should open her own restaurant.I am also very happy that they introduced me to their family while I was staying in Bologna during the Christmas period and took me to a trip just after New Year. I really felt a part of their family. :)
Tutto sommato, I can hardly describe how happy I am that I had this chance to meet them. They become not only my temporary family, but a family for life!
Baci a Cristina, Tonino, Franci e Gabri <3!
